Project Background

Iraq has abundant straw resources. Traditional methods of handling straw—such as burning or simply piling it up—make it difficult to utilize effectively. In recent years, the demand for alternative energy has been steadily rising. As a result, our client recognized the potential of a straw pelletizing project.
The client is a company focused on the utilization of agricultural resources. This project converts crop straw into standardized fuel pellets. By addressing the issue of significant resource waste, the project also generates substantial revenue. Their straw pellets have gained market recognition.
This straw pellet plant project in Iraq was a turnkey project. We provided the client with a customized production line and full-cycle project services, including planning, equipment customization, on-site installation and commissioning, and operator training, with the entire project delivered within four months.
Project Overview
Prior to the construction of the straw pellet plant in Iraq, our engineers assisted the client with comprehensive planning based on raw material characteristics, production capacity requirements, and site size. Ultimately, we configured an automated production system covering the entire process from raw material crushing to finished product packaging. This crop pellet production line is PLC-controlled, ensuring efficient production and reducing labor costs.
Based on the client’s needs, the products from this production line are primarily used as industrial fuel and for heating. Due to high production capacity needs, we provided two crushers and two машина для виробництва гранул із пшеничної соломиs operating in parallel. The resulting pellets feature high density, a compact structure, and stable combustion. They serve as a fully viable alternative to traditional fuels.

The client’s raw material consists of various types of baled straw. To facilitate pelletization, the crushing section is equipped with a bale breaker and a hammer mill for straw. The final crushed material is a powdery substance with a particle size of 3–5 mm, which significantly improves pelletization efficiency.

To meet the needs of various combustion applications, the customer needs to produce straw pellets in multiple sizes. Therefore, the straw pellet machines are equipped with multiple sets of ring dies with different pore sizes. The resulting pellets have a diameter of 6–10 mm and a length of 10–40 mm.


Solutions to Production Issues
During the construction of this straw pellet plant in Iraq, we helped the client resolve numerous production and technical challenges. These included raw material processing, the production environment, and ensuring stable, long-term operation. These are also common challenges faced by other biomass pellet plants. Our equipment and solutions are designed with practical needs in mind to deliver optimal production results.

The source material was bagged raw straw with relatively long fibers. If this straw is not sufficiently crushed, it can lead to difficulties in pellet formation and pellet machine blockages. The crushing section includes unbaling, preliminary shredding, and fine crushing to prepare the material for optimal pelletization.

Due to its light texture, straw crushing generates a significant amount of dust, which can adversely affect the production environment. Therefore, we have installed a dust collection system for the crushing section. This system uses airflow to extract material from the crusher while incorporating filters to prevent dust leakage.

For a high production capacity target of 8–10T/H, the production line’s ability to operate stably is crucial. The customer selected this automated production process. It enables automatic feeding, efficient molding, and automated cooling and baling. It also reduces labor costs, minimizes human error, and ensures high-efficiency production.

To improve the smooth flow between process stages, we have installed two 8 m³ storage silos between the bale unpacking and crushing stages. A 10 m³ storage silo is installed upstream of the pelletizer, and the packaging system is equipped with a 4 m³ storage silo. These silos effectively prevent equipment downtime.

Bale Breaking
For baled straw and loose, large-sized straw, we have configured a disc-type bale breaker. It is paired with a discharge belt conveyor, a blower, and a dust collection system. These components can perform preliminary crushing of the baled straw material.

It features an automated counter-current cooler and a fan-based dust collection system. The temperature of the cooled pellets does not exceed room temperature by more than 3–5°C.

The screening section ensures uniform pellet specifications and improves pellet quality. It can screen out 2–3 different pellet sizes, ensuring a smooth pellet surface. In actual projects, it is typically assembled and operated together with the cooler to save space and improve production efficiency.

To improve baling efficiency, this section is equipped with an automated baling scale for automatic weighing and packaging. A grain storage silo is located in front of the baling scale to temporarily store the screened pellets. This configuration reduces labor costs and ensures stable production capacity.

This device is a disc-type bale shredder designed specifically for the coarse shredding of high-fiber materials in bale form. Its hammer blades are made of No. 65 manganese steel and undergo a quenching process to enhance wear resistance. The shredded material is approximately 20–30 mm in size. It can be integrated with a feed chain conveyor, a discharge belt conveyor, and a dust collection system.
